Pepperl+Fuchs Introduces KFU8-SR-EX Switch Amplifiers with Wide-Range Supply for Intrinsically Safe Applications and Functional Safety up to SIL 2
February 7, 2023
Pepperl+Fuchs recently introduced the new KFU8-SR-EX universal powered switch amplifier, which can be used in intrinsically safe applications and functional safety up to SIL 2. The new KFU8 can be supplied with 19 V DC to 30 V DC or 90 V AC to 253 V AC, making the new switch amplifier family from Pepperl+Fuchs a true standout.
With this functionality, a single device can be used with various supply voltages. This frequently applies to a variety of applications, such as machine building and devices installed in a field box. As a result, fewer components need to be kept in stock and in the field technician’s toolbox.
The KFU8-SR-EX switch amplifiers transmit discrete signals from NAMUR sensors or mechanical contacts in the hazardous area to the safe area. A proximity sensor or switch controls the load on the control side via a changeover relay contact. The direction of effect can be reversed. All modules feature line fault detection. In the event of a fault, the relays de-energize and the fault is indicated by LEDs in accordance with NAMUR NE44. The devices are designed for use in environments from -40 °C … +60 °C and have all major international approvals such as ATEX, IECEx, and UL. In addition, the products are certified by TÜV Rheinland for applications up to SIL 2 Edition 2 according to IEC 61508 / IEC 61511.
The devices are available as 1- and 2-channel versions; the 1-channel version is available with an optional additional fault relay contact output.
