binder, a major supplier of industrial circular connectors, offers various A-coded M12 connectors as part of its 763 product series, which are equipped with a square flange housing for assembly. A special feature is the positionability of the A-coding, which supports variable cable installation.

Background: The A coding

Industry-standard, standardized M12 round connectors with A-coding according to DIN EN 61076-2-101 are an established part of sensor and actuator technology in typical factory automation and robotics applications. Their coding, which serves to avoid plugging errors, ensures the precise assignment of the pin and socket contacts: The A coding generally stands for applications in signal transmission with DC voltage over 3 to 12 poles. The principle of partial assignment of the contacts ensures the plug-in compatibility of product variants with different but smaller numbers of pins. A positionable coding is advantageous, for example, when the installation has to be carried out at different angles due to the installation space. At the field level of the automation, inside and outside the control cabinet,

Two-part construction simplifies the application

The square flange variants of the 763 series consist of two parts: the metal flange housing and a contact carrier. The latter is equipped with a locking coding nose that can be rotated in a 45 ° grid. The two-part structure supports user-friendly, safe assembly in practice.

Changing sizes made easy

The 763 series includes M12-A signal connectors with 4, 5 and 8 positions, as well as with litz wires or soldered contacts. In the stranded version, they are equipped with a square housing with an edge length of 20 mm or 26 mm; in the variant with solder contacts, it measures 20 mm.

The 26 mm square housing of the M12 stranded wire version has the same hole pattern as that of size M16. This means that users can switch between the sizes without having to adapt the existing housing.

Technical details of the products

The M12 connectors with square flange and with twistable and snap-in A-coding are specified for a maximum connection cross-section of 0.25 mm 2 (AWG 24). In all 4- and 5-pole versions, the rated currents reach 4 A (3 A UL), 2 A (1.5 A UL) with number of poles 8. The rated voltages are 250 V (4-pole), 60 V (5-pole ) or 30 V (8-pole). The corresponding rated impulse voltages are specified as 2500 V, 1500 V and 800 V, respectively.

With a user-friendly assembly and sealing concept, the new variants meet the tightness requirement according to IP69, even without a defined tightening torque. They are designed for operating temperatures from -40 ° C to +85 ° C.
