Yokogawa Releases Field Assistant R2.05

November 24, 2020

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that it has enhanced the Field Assistant software for the field inspections of industrial facilities and is releasing it today as Field Assistant R2.05. Field Assistant is a solution in Yokogawa’s OpreX Operational Risk Management family. When installed on mobile devices, this software enables users in the field to access checklists, manuals, and many other kinds of documents, thus enhancing the quality and efficiency of routine patrols of manufacturing sites. While previous versions of this software ran only on Android phones and tablets, this latest release now also supports Windows tablets and the hands-free RealWear head-mounted computers.

Development Background

At many industrial plants, personnel periodically perform field inspections by patrolling along defined routes and checking field instruments at specific points along the way, to keep facilities and equipment safe and in good working order. Inspection results are often manually recorded on printed checklists and submitted for review. To reduce the recording workload, prevent entry errors, and facilitate the sharing of results, many of our customers indicated that it would be desirable to be able to directly input these results on a tablet or some other kind of mobile device.

In response to this customer need, Yokogawa developed the original version of Field Assistant, which enabled inspectors to input inspection results on Android mobile devices. In addition to facilitating the recording of inspection checklists, the Field Assistant software can initiate the download of related documents to the mobile device, which inspectors can then refer to whenever needed. For increased efficiency in management of operations, the data in Field Assistant can be linked with data that is recorded and managed using the Operations Management software package. In response to the increased use of Windows tablets in the industry and the need to improve worker safety, the software can now run on either Windows tablets or Android mobile devices, and supports the hands-free RealWear head-mounted computers.

New Features

  1. Hands-free operation with RealWear head-mounted computers
Field Assistant R2.05 now supports RealWear’s HMT-1 and HMT-1Z1 lineup of hands-free head-mounted computers. Using the hands-free device, field service personnel can issue voice commands to the Field Assistant software to, for example, input work results and look up information.
  2. Support for use on Windows tablets
In addition to supporting the Android platform, Field Assistant R2.05 now includes a Windows version that can run on Windows tablets. Customers can thus freely use this software on whichever mobile device best meets their application requirements.
