Pepperl+Fuchs: New BTC14 Industrial Box Thin Client Available

The industrial box thin clients (BTC) from Pepperl+Fuchs are the perfect solution for industrial environments where traditional thin clients meet their limits. They give users access to applications and information that run on centralized systems. With their extremely rugged design, they are made for the special requirements of the process industry. Available from now on, the new BTC14 complements the portfolio of industrial box thin clients from Pepperl+Fuchs.
Just like the existing BTC12, the BTC14 comes with a rugged, enclosed IP4x aluminum housing. With this, it even withstands harsh conditions, temperatures from -20 °C to +60 °C, and can be installed in a range of locations—even in a drawer. These features do not only allow its 24/7 operation, but they also protect the BTC14 from external access. This minimizes unauthorized access and thus virus infiltration and other attacks.
Future-Oriented Through and Through
Pepperl+Fuchs has optimized the BTC14 for use with the latest screen technology. Equipped with four DisplayPort interfaces, the BTC14 is able to support up to four Ultra HD monitors with 4K resolution at 60 Hz and therefore designed for use in quad monitor installations. An additional DP++ option also allows users to connect HDMI monitors. Like the BTC12, the BTC14 is equipped with modern interface technology:

- – Serial interface port to support legacy peripherals
- – 4 x USB ports for modern peripherals
- – Wide range 16 … 28 V DC power input for office and industrial applications
All connectors of the BTC14 can be mechanically secured to prevent disconnection, even in the event of vibration.
Users of the industrial box thin clients from Pepperl+Fuchs benefit from long-term availability of hardware and software. Only selected industrial components are used for the BTCs, which are available in the long term and ensure high reliability. Recurring qualification expenses by integrators and customers are thus greatly reduced.
Pre-Installed VisuNet RM Shell 5 Firmware
With the pre-installed VisuNet RM Shell 5 firmware, users can get the BTC14 up and running quickly and easily in just a few minutes. The latest generation of RM Shell is based on Microsoft Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB, which includes long-term security updates by Microsoft. In addition, RM Shell 5 comes with integrated security mechanisms that give the system reliable protection from malware and viruses.
RM Shell 5 firmware is available for every VisuNet device from Pepperl+Fuchs. It offers a complete thin client solution for process industries—from BTCs in the control room to remote monitors in Zone 1/21. And with VisuNet Control Center software, plant operators can configure, monitor, and efficiently manage all devices from a central point.
