Southwire Joins Georgia Tech Manufacturing 4.0 Consortium
September 3, 2024
Southwire is excited to announce its membership in the Georgia Tech (GT) Manufacturing 4.0 Consortium.
The Consortium is a membership-based association with a mission to bring together industry, academia and government entities to develop and deploy manufacturing technologies into the market. By leveraging the latest in manufacturing developments and technologies, members have unique opportunities to increase their effectiveness and competitiveness as they become global leaders.
“As the electrical industry restructures – driven by breakthroughs in materials science, artificial intelligence, quantum computing and other technology leaps – Southwire is seizing the opportunity to lead in sustainability and environmental stewardship,” said Kiran Manchiraju, vice president of research for Southwire. “By strategically partnering with the GT Advanced Manufacturing Consortium, Southwire is setting a new standard for innovation. This collaboration will empower us to leverage cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities and drive forward-thinking solutions, accelerating our development cycles.”
The GT Manufacturing 4.0 Consortium is an opportunity for manufacturers to engage with the academic and research community, opening the door to collaborative research to accelerate development and innovation.
The Consortium is anchored by GT’s Advanced Manufacturing Pilot Facility, a 20,000 square foot manufacturing space that supports the scale-up and translation of research into practice. This space gives members the opportunity to test and develop their own technologies using state-of-the-art resources, all while networking and partnering with other industry leaders.
“Through the Consortium, we bring manufacturers together to collaborate with industry peers and leading researchers in manufacturing,” said Steven Ferguson, executive director of the Consortium. “Having a shared use facility that is fully equipped to solve manufacturing’s most interesting challenges is not only a perk of Consortium membership but serves as a hub for innovation in manufacturing. We are excited to welcome Southwire to our Consortium and look forward to working together to lead the manufacturing 4.0 revolution.”
