Safety and Security in transformation
Digital transformation demands a review of the safety of plant and machinery. The issue of Security is increasingly becoming a critical success factor. How can companies overcome the challenges of digital transformation? Pilz can provide comprehensive support during this process, and in Hannover it will be presenting technologies and solutions that make your plant and machinery Safe and Secure.

Norway as partner country of the 2024 Hannover Messe
Holistic automation for a “green” Norway
This year’s partner country, Norway, covers almost half of its total final energy consumption from hydroelectric power. The country wants to accelerate the development of this electrification, and thus also the decarbonisation of industry. Pilz creates safety and therefore sustainability for human, machine and the environment worldwide, and is supporting this change: since 1996, the automation company has had a local presence via Pilz Scandinavia, providing products and solutions for automation, and for safety in the field of sustainable power generation.
Exhibition highlights:
Industrial Security – There’s no Safety without Security!
With the new Machinery Regulation, the issue of Industrial Security will become mandatory by 2027 at the latest. In the connected world of automation, Safety and Security are now a unit: one is no longer conceivable without the other.
Pilz are already in the middle of a change process.
Pilz is prepared, and can help you through this process with appropriate advice, as well as specific training, services and products:
- Strengthen your competence in Industrial Security with the “CESA – Certified Expert for Security in Automation” training. The training provides comprehensive knowledge of normative requirements, the basics of risk assessment, and technical and organisational security measures in the industrial environment.
- With the new Industrial Security Consulting Service, Pilz experts examine and assess your plant and machinery holistically for security risks and create concepts to improve physical security at machine level.
- The SecurityBridge firewall provides comprehensive protection against unauthorised access for industrial automation networks. It monitors the data traffic between the PC and controller and reports any unauthorised changes to the control project.
- With “Identification and Access Management (I.A.M.)”, you get Safety and Security in one system, from user authentication and operating mode selection, or data and network security, through to access management!
- New: The operation element PIT oe ETH, which can be used for Security, with activatable Ethernet port: only authorised personnel have the ability to activate this interface temporarily, for new configurations for example.
Work safely and productively – with the new safety locking devices
Pilz offers a versatile portfolio of safety locking devices to safeguard movable guards. Whether process guarding or safe guard locking for personnel protection, an accessible safety gate or a small cover – Pilz safety switches with guard locking can be used for every application: cost-optimised and flexible. Two new sensors provide even more options:
- The new PSENmlock mini is ideal for space-critical applications, such as flaps or covers.
- The new generation PSENslock 2 in a new design is ideal for use even where there are robust requirements.
Systematic connectivity
IO-Link Safety communication technology opens up new possibilities in sensor integration. Point-to-point communication enables fast, simple and safe integration of safety sensors up to field level, plus the opportunity to optimise self diagnostics and data evaluation.
At the Hannover Messe Pilz will be showing its IO-Link Safety solution – consisting of Master and sensors – on an interlinked automation plant with integrated robotics. You can see access protection with safety light curtains and safeguarding of safety gates with a control unit and safety locking device – all integrated via IO-Link Safety.
Pilz also uses an automation solution with the Safety over EtherCAT (FSoE) protocol. The safe small controller PNOZmulti 2 is used as the FSoE-MainInstance (Master). Up to 4 MainInstance-MainInstance connections and up to 60 MainInstance-SubInstance connections (Master-Slave) are possible with the EtherCAT FSoE communication module, in conjunction with the base unit PNOZ m B1. In the PNOZmulti Configurator software tool, the fieldbus is configured via ESI files.
What’s more, it is easy to implement safety-related networking with the safe radar sensor PSENradar and safe drive technology PMC.
All in one: safety and automation for your individual application
Visitors to the Hannover Messe can obtain information about practical automation solutions, which combine with proven Pilz Safety to form an overall solution. The packages are designed for applications of varying complexity – to control a conveyor or a gripper arm with several synchronous axes, for example – and offer greater flexibility, continuity and efficiency.
Pilz’ flexible solutions comprising safety and automation open up numerous possibilities for different machine types and applications. Talk to the Pilz experts about your specific application.
