This is what working together looks like! At the top “inter airport Europe” airport trade fair in Munich (9 – 12 November 2021), Rittal and partners will be showing what secure, networked and sustainable solutions for every electrical system and IT application at the airport look like – from the airfield to the terminal and the data centre. The system provider is presenting the best of its enclosure and IT expertise for airfield lighting, ground power supply, outdoor applications, building automation, e-charging infrastructure and edge data centres.

Airport traffic is facing a fundamental change. In addition to maintaining maximum safety standards, there is a growing need for higher efficiency due to growing cost pressure, as well as greater digitisation of passenger and freight transport, and far better sustainability. Strong partnerships will be needed to find sustainable solutions.

“We share with our partners in plant engineering the awareness of the challenges in airport operations, as well as know-how and application expertise. Together, we are establishing the conditions to allow airport operators to achieve their targets of security, digitalisation and efficiency,” says Andreas Zühlcke, Vice President Vertical Market Management at Rittal.

For example, through its value-added expertise with its sister company Eplan, Rittal is showing how plant conengineers can make their switchgear significantly faster and more cost-efficient from planning to production. Rittal will also be presenting enclosure and IT infrastructure solutions that ensure greater security and availability in airport operations and allow improved flexibility, speed, and global availability thanks to standardised system technology. In addition, climate control solutions offering energy savings of up to 75% are also creating more sustainability in operation.

For smooth terminal operation

Rittal is showing a segment of a baggage handling system – the type VarioBelt TilterPlus from Siemens Logistics – with the latest VX25 enclosure technology from Rittal as one highlight. The complete system has been planned with engineering solutions from Eplan, and it ensures smooth operation. Rittal, together with Getriebebau Nord, is demonstrating that the climate control of frequency inverters with Blue e+ cooling units can save enormous amounts of energy in the baggage handling field. Other enclosure solutions for the terminal sector include joint ventures with Johnson Controls for building automation and the ezy charge charging station from Zillmer Elektrotechnik for the charging infrastructure. Rittal systems guarantee maximum safety for the electronics and protection against vandalism.

For outdoor-safe airport apron technology

Rittal also offers a wide range of solutions for the airport apron, where robust and outdoor-capable enclosure technology is required for demanding environments – such as handling, taxiing, parking and maintenance areas for aircraft. A CS Toptec outdoor enclosure with Blue e+ cooling unit technology for aircraft ground power supply and airfield lighting will also be presented. Furthermore, Rittal is exhibiting an outdoor enclosure developed jointly with Fraport AG for mast distributors with the new AX compact enclosure to protect WLAN routers and security technology.

For the digital transformation at the airport

Rittal supports the networking and digital transformation that involves every area in the airport with IT infrastructure solutions, ranging from the rack to the data centre. Plug-and-play solutions for edge data centres developed together with the partners guarantee secure, efficient and high-performance IT applications for all sectors at the airport. Complete IT solutions and comprehensive service – from suitable IT hardware and software to scalable infrastructure – can be quickly achieved through strategic alliances with renowned international market leaders such as ABB, HPE, Siemens, and Atos.

For a global system standard at airports

Thanks to the modularity of “Rittal – The System.”, which is available worldwide, Rittal offers a platform technology for implementing all enclosure and IT system requirements quickly and easily. VX25 Ri4Power switchgear systems with a rated current of up to 6,300 A can be implemented, for example. Moreover, users can deploy switchgear from all well-known manufacturers and receive a type-tested system with design verification under the IEC 61439 standard. Moreover, Rittal and Eplan support the plant engineering value chain by optimising end-to-end digital and efficient processes from engineering, procurement, and manufacturing to ongoing operation.
