Eaton recognized for environmental stewardship by the state of North Carolina

December 16, 2019

Power management company Eaton recently announced its manufacturing facility in Asheville, North Carolina, has received the 2019 Environmental Steward award from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality—the highest level of corporate environmental stewardship recognized by the state.

“Eaton joins an elite number of organizations in our state that recognize that it is possible to protect North Carolina’s natural resources while remaining globally competitive,” said Michael Regan, secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality. “The commitment to environmental standards and going above and beyond what is required exemplifies Eaton’s role as an environmental leader that recognizes the economic benefits of stewardship.”

Eaton’s facility in Asheville became certified as “zero waste-to-landfill” in 2017 and has maintained that status for the past two years. To earn and uphold the certification, Asheville employees engaged in various environmental initiatives, including programs to reduce the facility’s solid waste and recycle its wood waste. Zero waste-to-landfill is a designation Eaton sites earn when they achieve a landfill waste diversion rate of 98 percent or more through reuse, composting, recycling or other means. To date, more than 150 Eaton sites around the world and nearly 50 percent of our manufacturing sites have been certified.

In addition to the Asheville team’s work to minimize the facility’s environmental impact, they are also actively engaged in making a difference in the Asheville community. The team delivered bouquets of flowers grown in their community garden to local organizations such as The Elizabeth House at Four Seasons Inpatient Residence and Vocational Solutions of Hendersonville—an organization that provides career and life skills training to adults with disabilities—and worked with local schools to provide students with reusable tote bags.

“I am incredibly proud of the Asheville team for this remarkable achievement and truly honored to be recognized as an Environmental Steward by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality,” said Dave Mannebach, plant manager, Asheville.

The Asheville facility is part of Eaton’s Power Distribution and Controls Assemblies Division within its Electrical business. The plant manufactures electrical equipment for use in infrastructure applications, including hospitals, universities, airports, data centers, mining, utility and oil and gas.
