i³ CONTROL – The New Automation Platform

With i³ CONTROL, Yaskawa is creating a completely new automation platform. The special feature of this ecosystem, which was presented as a concept for the first time in mid-2022, is that it forms a technically coordinated overall solution for industry-specific controls – from the engineering software to the controller hardware to the integrated chip technology. And, in the future, beyond. As a first anticipation of the continuously growing i³ CONTROL portfolio, the specially developed software environment – i³ Engineer – and the first machine controller of this new platform – the iC9210-PN – experienced their world premiere. Market launch was planned from the end of 2022.

Introducing the 1590Z series Type 4X/6P diecast aluminum enclosures from Hammond Manufacturing. These rugged electronic instrument enclosures are made of a diecast aluminum alloy (tough, yet easy to machine), and feature a two piece “tongue and groove” construction with a replaceable one-piece silicone rubber gasket which provides protection against access of dust and water. The gasket supplied is loose inside the enclosure, not pre-installed, and has a temperature rating of -40C to +150C.

The SCU-2200 universal analog-to-frequency converters accept milliamp, voltage, RTD, thermocouple, or potentiometer inputs and provide a scalable single-frequency output (up to 25kHz). They are helpful when a controller does not have any analog input points available but does have a frequency input.

The 8-channel programmable capability can identify and isolate individual faulty branches. It shuts down the affected channels only and secures the constant power supply of the remaining loads. An integrated data monitoring reports the operating status to a PLC or control center. The electronic circuit breaker also alarms in case of an error and allows a remote reset of the channels.

CC-Link IE TSN is an open industrial network technology that combines gigabit Ethernet bandwidth with Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) allowing for high-speed motion control, safety, and standard communication I/O devices. EtherNet/IP networks allow for communication with third party devices.

Siemens Expands Its SIMATIC MICRO-DRIVE Servo-Drive System for Extra-Low-Voltage Material Handling and Manufacturing Applications

Siemens is extending its drive portfolio in the extra-low-voltage range for 24–48V EC motors with its new SIMATIC MICRO-DRIVE.  The new product line with UL- and CE-marked components consists of the PDC (Profidrive Control) servo drive in conjunction with a flexible range of motors and connecting cables from product partners, along with the TM (technology module) format with servo and stepper drives in compact 20mm width that can be used in conjunction with distributed or open controllers.

Siemens: Sinamics G220 Added to Xcelerator Portfolio

With Sinamics G220, Siemens is launching a new high-performance frequency converter to join the Sinamics family in the run-up to Hannover Messe 2023. The innovative frequency converters are equipped with so-called clean power technology. This reduces harmonics by up to 97 percent without the need for line harmonic chokes or DC link chokes. As a result, the Sinamics G220 frequency converters are significantly more efficient in terms of space utilization and operation and make engineering much easier. The new frequency converters are also the first Sinamics drives to be part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, the Siemens-wide business platform for digital transformation.
