Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM) has recently announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire Synovos, a leading player in integrated supply solutions in the Americas, for a total consideration of $145 million on a debt-free, cash-free basis. The Synovos acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including US anti-trust, and is expected to complete in Q1 calendar year 2021.
ABB recently announced its plan to expand its manufacturing facility in Hackettstown, New Jersey to meet growing demand for electrical equipment. The expansion will double the solid dielectric switchgear manufacturing footprint to 24,000 square feet, bringing the total site to 120,000 square feet when complete, and will feature state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has selected Emerson to modernize and optimize its Magnolia power plant that delivers reliable, cleaner electricity to customers. The Magnolia project is part of TVA’s five-year, $110 million investment to install digital technologies across its power generating fleet. Emerson’s software and technologies will support TVA’s efforts to digitally transform the Mississippi plant through advanced operations, enhanced cybersecurity and digital twin-enabled training.
Yokogawa Electric Corporation recently announced it has been recognized for leadership in corporate sustainability by global environmental non-profit CDP, securing a place on its prestigious A List for tackling climate change, as well as acting to protect water security – two of the three environmental themes covered by CDP. Out of the 5,800+ businesses that were evaluated, Yokogawa is one of a small number of companies to achieve a double A score.
Designed to spur further innovations in e-mobility, the $10 million, 3,600 m2 facility is based on the Delft University of Technology campus, in the Netherlands and will drive ABB’s future portfolio development, as well as R&D projects for EVs. Headquartered in Moorestown, N.J., Shingle & Gibb Automation provides advanced automation and control solutions to industrial users and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Shingle & Gibb Automation was founded in 1933 and has five locations in the eastern United States.
A customer was using several competitors’ photoelectric sensors in their packaging and material handling system. They were packing raw bulk products such as soil, cement, and dog food into a variety of containers. There is often dust and debris in these environments that settle onto the sensors, even along the long conveyor systems.

Ten years ago, Germany entered the era of offshore wind energy generation with the inauguration of the alpha ventus project. The wind farm was also the first in the world that went into operation under deep-sea conditions. Over the last 10 years, its 12 turbines linked to an offshore transformer station have fed 2.1 terawatt-hours of green electricity into the German power grid.
