The Industrial Network Infrastructure: Your Future Business Foundation, Digitization as a Business Asset with Panduit

The industrial network infrastructure is a valuable business asset. Investments in legacy industrial networks require a clear migration path to optimize return on assets while taking advantage of performance enhancements from new technologies. A robust, well-executed physical layer is foundational to this asset continuing to deliver value. The acceleration of digitization on plant floors is evident all around us. According to Gartner Research, 80% of CEOs in the manufacturing industry are growing digital technology investments to counter economic pressures.

Siemens Offers Optimized Control Panel Construction
to Machine Tool Builders

Panel building on machine tools is no longer as simple as wiring a few components and calling it a day. Now, there are more deadlines, cost pressures, standards, new directives, plus an increasing pressure to innovate. Besides commonly encountered problems related to time, cost, compliance and quality, there is also an increased degree of automation in the pre-fabrication of cables and the automated production of sheet metal parts. In addition to the mechanical design and development of the automation concept, planning of the electrical power supply and distribution is the third engineering discipline involved in the production of a new machine.

Power System Balance

Achieving Power System Balance

For the power generation industry, maintaining power system balance as closely as possible to the ideal power factor (PF) of 1.000 using correction capacitors and other technology is critical. Power factor is a measure of how effectively electricity is used, with an equal 1.000 PF benefiting both the customer and utility, and a low or high PF indicating poor electrical power utilization. A low power factor can overload generation units making them work harder for the same amount of power.

How Can the Availability of a System Be Increased?

For plant operators, the primary goal is to ensure maximum availability of machines and systems. This requires a reliable power supply throughout the entire lifetime of the system. Therefore, it is important that the applied power supplies are reliable, safe and durable. Within a power supply system, however, the power supply unit is often just one component among many. DC UPS, fuses and redundancy or buffer modules are also included. Such a holistic power supply system must be planned conscientiously.

How GFCIs Empower Panel Builders to Protect Against Electrical Shock and Save Lives

With power, comes great responsibility. A panel builder who can effectively integrate ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) into a system can make the difference between life and death. Ground-fault circuit protection is one of the most effective preventative measures against electrical shock because it actively reacts to irregular electrical conditions, regardless of a worker’s qualifications or use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
