Banner Engineering: S4B Remote Fixed Blanking Configuration Tool – Easily “Disable” Specific Beams That Would Otherwise Be Continually Blocked by a Stationary Object

April 10, 2025
Quickly configure portions of an S4B Safety Light Curtain’s sensing field to ignore fixed objects such as brackets, tooling, or part supports with Banner’s Remote Fixed Blanking Configuration Tool.
A simple turn of a key performs fast teaching or reteaching of the light curtains or cascades, providing machine safety without complex programming or redesigning processes to accommodate these objects.
DIP switch access and power cycling are eliminated, keeping line changes short, simple, and controlled. If a defined object is moved or removed, the system halts to maintain safety, with another quick key turn updating coverage. The key can then be removed to reduce tampering. In high-vibration environments, the one-beam tolerance can be enabled to reduce false trips caused by minor movement of fixed objects.
Onboard LED indication provides easy diagnostics locally without going to a separate HMI. The Remote Fixed Blanking Configuration Tool can be left in-line or removed, connecting directly between two receivers in a cascade. If teaching a standalone emitter/receiver pair, a cascade cable is required to connect to the receiver. Please note that the Remote Fixed Blanking Tool requires S4B receiver models with FID 3 or later.
