Siemens: GM-SG Switchgear Portfolio Reach Expanded
August 23, 2023
Siemens has expanded the type GM-SG and GM-SG-AR family of metal-clad, medium-voltage switchgear to include applications operating at 27 kilovolts, up to 3,000 A and 40 kiloamps.
With this addition, the portfolio of innovative air-insulated power distribution solutions now covers the full range of voltages prevalent in the modern distribution grid.
Compact and modular to maximize floor space, the 27 kilovolt designs use the same innovative features and capabilities found in the base GM-SG and GM-SG-AR family of switchgear. These include industry-proven performance, dependability, ownership costs, and operator safety – that meet or exceed the requirements of such industry standards as ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, and CSA.
Introduced in the early 2000s, the Siemens type GM-SG and GM-SG-AR family of switchgear uses vacuum-interrupter technology to meet the ever-evolving needs of modern indoor and outdoor substations for industrial, construction, data center, petrochemical, utility, water management, mining, and chemical processing applications.
“This expansion of our medium-voltage switchgear portfolio extends our reach in the power distribution arena while retaining the performance characteristics and reduced maintenance benefits the modern distribution grid requires,” says Brian Dula, Vice President of the Electrification and Automation business at Siemens Smart Infrastructure USA.
