Parker’s New GVM310 PMAC Motor Provides High-Performance Motor and Generator Solution for Electric and Hybrid on-Road and off-Road Commercial Vehicles
December 14, 2020
Parker Hannifin has recently announced the latest addition to its Global Vehicle Motor (GVM) family of high-power, permanent magnet AC motors (PMACs). The GVM310 has a 310mm frame and provides a traction solution for on-road and off-road commercial electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). These include construction vehicles, city buses, light construction and materials and mining vehicles.
When used in conjunction with Parker’s hydraulic pumps, the GVM family can also help customers realise electro-hydraulic pump (EHP) solutions that allow the electrification of formerly purely hydraulic applications.
Utilisation of the GVM310 can bring a range of benefits including high efficiency / lower energy consumption that in turn allows compliance with stringent emerging energy legislation. The GVM family reduces CO2 footprints, is extremely quiet, and its high reliability results in reduced maintenance and downtime for operators. Options with peak power values ranging from 147 kW to 409 kW are available. All achieve high power density meaning the size and weight of overall solutions can be minimised easing design-in for customers.
In addition to operating as a high-power motor, the GVM310 can also be run as a generator enabling effective battery management, longer duty cycles and energy savings of up to 30% compared to induction technologies. Availability as either low flux versions for high-speed applications, or high flux derivatives for low-speed applications enhances versatility.
The GVM family incorporates a wide range of technical features that improve performance and enhance reliability. These include a new thinner lamination design to reduce losses, a patented cooling system and a clean, oil-free design.
The GVM310’s 310mm frame size complements existing units with 142mm and 210mm stack lengths.
