HARTING Announces New Role as a Principal Member of ODVA

November 9, 2020

HARTING Technology Group was recently pleased to announce they had become a Principal Member of the Global Industry Association ODVA, represented by their subsidiary HARTING Americas.

ODVA, based in Ann Arbor (Michigan, USA), is a standards development organization that works to advance open, interoperable information and communication technologies.  The core technologies and interests of ODVA are media-independent network protocol “CIP” (Common Industrial Protocol) and the network adaptations of CIP (particularly EtherNet/IP and DeviceNet).

HARTING joins other world-leading automation companies, including CISCO, Rockwell Automation,  Endress+Hauser, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, and OMRON as Principal Members of ODVA.

HARTING’s promotion into the leadership group of ODVA is reflective of its growth in expertise and commitment to the advancement of industrial Ethernet and connectivity solutions for the automation industry.  HARTING has been working to democratize the adoption of IIoT and Industry 4.0 for many years.  In their new role with ODVA, they will be positioned to identify and standardize different technologies and devices that will be needed for the automation industry to successfully implement IIoT.

“HARTING has always been a standard-setter, it’s in our DNA and part of our core strategy,” said Jon DeSouza, President and CEO of HARTING Americas. “It started with the invention of the rectangular connector in the 1950s and continues to this day.  We invest heavily in R&D, which ensures we are on the cutting-edge of connectivity and able to anticipate the market needs for today and tomorrow.  We are thrilled to become a leader in ODVA and look forward to driving the future of Industrial Communications together.”

“ODVA welcomes the increased contribution of HARTING as a principal member as well as their expertise in connectivity,” said Dr. Al Beydoun, President and Executive Director of ODVA. “Their participation as a principal member will contribute to and grow ODVA’s ability to move the connectivity of the industrial enterprise forward to meet the increased demands of IIoT and Industry 4.0.”

With a diverse array of leading industrial automation suppliers, such as HARTING, as principal members, ODVA is well positioned to continue leading the development of the Industrial Ethernet from plant floor automation control to cloud level business analysis. HARTING has helped drive the adoption of Industrial Ethernet over recent years, especially with the recent launch of their T1 Industrial connector for Industrial Single Pair Ethernet.
