Han-Modular: New Shielded Module for Power and Signals
May 11, 2020
HARTING has developed a new Han Shielded power module that allows users to insert shielded power lines into modular connectors for the first time. A shielded signal module for easy EMC-protected data transmission will also be added to this product shortly. Customer benefits: Easy to use and shorter installation times.
The new Han Shielded power module has three power contacts and one PE contact for connecting typical three-phase loads. It also has two signal contacts for temperature monitoring, brakes, etc., as well as a large shield that allows EMC-compliant connection of the cable shielding directly to the module. It represents an alternative to the hardwiring of shielded power lines while also allowing such connections to be made alongside other modules in the Han-Modular series in one hood or housing.
HARTING has tested the new module in practical applications in the EMC laboratory: the EMC characteristics of the shield in the Han Shielded power module are entirely suitable for typical drive applications such as frequency-controlled three-phase motors or other loads. This makes it possible to plug in shielded power lines and it is easy to use and allows direct connection of the shield to the module. As a result, installation times for machines and systems are shorter, whether in a factory or at the end customer’s site.
The series will also have an EMC-protected module for signal transmission. With a large shield and additional 360° shielding plate, the module not only offers excellent shielding, but also ensures a high transmission volume in minimal space. 27 shielded D-Sub contacts up to 4A / 32V can be plugged in. Under the name Han Shielded Module Basic, this new product will be a simple and cost-effective way for users in the machinery and robotics sectors (for example) to integrate shielded transmission into modular connectors.
