Siemens New Generator Circuit-breaker Offers Advanced Customization

Siemens HB3-Compact generator circuit-breaker
With its HB3-Compact generator circuit-breaker, Siemens provides a unique generator circuit breaker solution to the most challenging constraints. Offering more customization options, the generator circuit-breaker can be mounted either vertically or horizontally, and its phase-to phase spacing and phase height axis can be adjusted to match perfectly to the existing busbar connection points. The circuit-breaker can also be fitted with integrated line disconnecting switch and earth disconnecting switch on generator side and/or on transformer side. These features make it especially valuable for retrofit applications in power plants, where the highest security of supply is crucial, and space is limited due to existing installations.
With the increasing percentage of renewable power, reliable protection technology is needed to handle higher voltages resulting from temporary higher power infeed, for example. Generator circuit-breakers are key components for improving the reliability and availability of power plants. They protect equipment such as generators and transformers against overload or short circuiting by disconnecting and connecting them from and to the grid.
With its adaptable design and installation, the new HB3-Compact model offers power plant operators the greatest degree of flexibility when designing a new plant or replacing outdated equipment. It has a simplified footprint, which facilitates the designing and dimensioning of the switchgear. The supporting frame design can be customized, meaning the phases can be fitted in one common or an individual frame design to enable splitting of the phases, for example when installing in different rooms.
Besides this flexibility in design, HB3-C also supports plant operators in saving costs during project implementation and operation. Thanks to the unit’s compact size, its transport, erection and commissioning are simplified and outage times for the installation of a new circuit-breaker can be kept to a minimum. The maintenance-free vacuum switching technology used in the switchgears eliminates the need for gas handling, guarantees minimum maintenance costs and increases the recycling rate of the HB3 systems. The HB3-C is part of the Siemens Blue Portfolio, combining high-tech performance with environmentally safe materials and work procedures.

LÜTZE has expanded its proven AirSTREAM wiring system to include a modular mounting rail system that allows a previously unattainable level of flexibility and simplified frame assembly. The new AirSTREAM mounting rail system is suitable for users that want to design a mounting frame independently, quickly and easily on site. To this end, the LÜTZE engineers have expanded the modular system to include defined lengths and standardized dimensions in a 10, 25 and 50-mm hole pattern.
AutomationDirect has added Gladiator GECP series modular 12/24 VDC circuit protectors to their selection of electronic circuit protection devices. The GECP series offers both fixed trip current versions and a version with an adjustable trip current range and adjustable trip characteristics. LED signaling with output alarms allows real-time status monitoring. This series is compact, lightweight, and available at a very low cost per channel.
Eaton’s Arc Flash Relay (EAFR) provides reportedly unmatched switchgear protection. This relay reduces arc flash energy by quickly clearing the current feeding the arc. The sensitive light inputs with current permissive detection identify low power phase to ground arc faults. The EAFR works to prevent faults in medium and low-voltage switchgear, and the factory-installed Arc Flash Relay modules and sensors allow for simple integration into electrical assemblies.
Littelfuse, Inc. recently introduced the MITI-7 Series Ultra-Miniature Reed Switch, a Form A (single-pole, single-throw normally open or SPST-NO) switch that’s hermetically sealed in a 7mm-long glass envelope. The MITI-7 Series offers sensitivity options ranging from 6 AT to 20 AT, far wider than existing magnetic switches of comparable size, which were limited to a range of just 6 AT to 10 AT.
Phoenix Contact’s new BOXTRAB surge protective device (SPD) combines protection for power, data, and signal within the same enclosure. In the process industries, instrumentation requires both power and signal/data control lines. Equipment users often protect these circuits with two dedicated surge protectors: one for power and one for signal. BOXTRAB provides an all-inclusive suppression system comprising independently configured protection arrays within a single enclosure to safeguard both the instrument’s power and signal lines.
